From its elevated position in the conservation area of Downalong, Grade II Listed St Nicholas Cottage enjoys views of The Island and out towards the sea; in its garden, you can enjoy all day sunshine. It offers glorious solitude for an early morning cup of tea before hitting the white sandy beaches, challenging yourself in the surf or flying your kites on the hills above the town.
Located in the heart of St Ives, the interior of this tastefully refurbished house – once a pair of fishermen’s cottages – is unexpectedly spacious. Laid out over three floors, it can sleep up to ten guests in luxurious comfort.
The accommodation includes a master and a double bedroom, both with ensuite and sea views, two twin bedded rooms and a single room. There is a beautifully appointed family bathroom and a separate toilet.
The layout offers you great flexibility - a snug on the first floor is an appealing retreat for youngsters to watch TV or for teenagers to enjoy their own space; its sofabed can accommodate one guest.
On the ground floor, there is a large and airy reception room; at one end, a generous table in front of the deep window seat ensures large parties are comfortable. The ideal place for lively family meals and competitive board games! This leads on to a relaxing lounge, invitingly arranged around a cosy stove fire – an appealing focal point where the whole family can gather in the evenings to recount the day’s adventures or relax in comfort to watch television.
You will find everything you need for all your cooking requirements: the bright kitchen is fully equipped, and includes a washer/drier and a dishwasher. A full height double fridge-freezer provides generous food storage; in addition a wine cooler keeps drinks at the optimum temperature. A breakfast bar has space for four diners.
The cottage has its own garden, with a coal barbecue and outdoor table and benches. In addition, there is a foldaway washing line. This is a wonderfully sheltered sun-trap, which you can enjoy from breakfast in the early morning sunshine right through to al fresco dinners straight from the barbecue and enjoyed beneath the gloriously starry night sky.
The cottage has parking for one car, which is accessed through the back garden gate. Beyond, it is a five minute stroll to the sheltered and family-friendly Porthgwidden Beach.
This location is ideal for everything St Ives has to make your holiday perfect: from the front door, the narrow cobbled streets weave down to the waterfront of St Ives Harbour Beach; amongst all the activity of this bustling viewpoint, the local fishermen can be seen landing their daily catches of fresh seafood.
Also within easy reach, Tate St Ives is a magnificent backdrop to Porthmeor Beach, which is popular with surfers and swimmers.
